Bay Area Day of Remembrance

SFJACL was a consortium member that hosted the 47th Annual Day of Remembrance on February 15, commemorating the signing of Executive Order 9066 while rallying against mass deportation and detention. Held at the Japanese Cultural and Community Center of Northern California, the event was emceed by Ryan Yamamoto and featured a roundtable discussion moderated by Kenji Taguma of the Nichi Bei Foundation. Panelists included David Chiu, San Francisco City Attorney; Dr. Satsuki Ina, Co-founder of Tsuru for Solidarity; and Grace Shimizu of Campaign for Justice: Redress NOW for Japanese Latin Americans. The program also included a dance performance by IKKAI and an award presentation honoring Clifford Uyeda for his instrumental role in the Japanese American redress movement.
