2026 Intern Spotlight: Sophia Bell

Sophia Bell was born and raised across the bridge in Marin County and graduated from high school at the Bay School of San Francisco. Her connection to Japantown began as a baby when her mother brought her to the Bambi Playgroup hosted at the JCCCNC. Since then, she has continued to visit Japantown frequently with her family and friends. She is a recent graduate from the University of California, San Diego, where she majored in Sociology and minored in Japanese Studies and AAPI Studies while representing the Women’s Swim Team. A  great deal of her research focused on mixed Japanese identity and child development, inspired by her own experience being dabaru. She is eager to enter the field of social work and looks forward to working with the Japanese-American community.
